Evening Stroll, West Coast

The lighting in this scene is so typical of many places on the West Coast of Scotland, especially the Hebridean Islands. I have spent many holidays walking on such beaches, with white-golden sands contrasting with dark, low cloud masses. The evening sunlight seems to sparkle on the various headlands and islands, while the sea varies from deep purple to brilliant emerald. I love the title of Colin Baxter’s early Scottish Photography collection – “The Light and the Land” – I think it sums up Scottish landscape beautifully.
