Atlantic Squall, Tiree

 Oil on canvas, 70cm x 60cm

Atlantic Squall, Tiree

This is another painting from my trip to Tiree last Easter. The island holds the sunshine record for the UK and I can see why. It lies in the Gulf Stream and is relatively flat, so many of the storms simply pass it by! On most days we were enjoying, albeit windy, sunshine on the beach whilst dark clouds scudded across the horizon. The lighting effects of this were dramatic and the colours of the sea beautiful.
I used a small, hard brush for this piece to help capture the wild, stormy feeling of the sea, despite the sunshine.
I have now added the final glaze to this peice and will update the photograph shortly. I am really pleased with the finished painting as it reminds me so much of the day it recalls.
