This is the beautiful view looking west across Loch Tay from the bridge in Kenmore. The island is called “Priory Island” and was once a stronghold for the Campbells of Glenorchy. The ruins of their fort still stand today. Even before this, in 1122, the island was gifted to the monks of Scone Abbey by Alexander 1, after his queen, Sybilla, is said to have died on the island. You often see boats moored near Priory Island – and it struck me that it is a special place to rest, steeped in tragic history.
